NIGHT CREAMS

GUIDE ON CHOOSING NIGHT CREAMS

Night creams are similar to day creams as in they both have the function of moisturizing the skin.

So what is the difference between a night and a day cream?

Firstly, moisturizing creams formulated for the night are usually thicker and some of them may even contain oil. While day creams are usually lighter which makes it easier for you to put on make-up.

Next, night creams usually contain additional active ingredients that heal and repair the skin while you sleep.

At night, your skin’s cell renewal process is much more active than in the day. The added ingredients in these creams are absorbed into the skin and gives the cell renewals process an added boost.

Some night creams contain retinols which is a derivative of vitamin A. Creams with this added ingredient can help with wrinkles and pigmentation spots.

DO YOU REALLY NEED A NIGHT CREAM?

That really depends on your skin type.

Do you have dry or very dry skin?

Yes?

Chances are a good face cream for the night would help you. Dry and extra dry skins usually respond very well to moisturizing cream meant for the night. The richness of the night cream would be an added boost to your dry skin.

Do you have oily skin?

The extra nourishing ingredients in the night cream will still help to repair the skin while you sleep.

However, if you find that your skin is breaking out due to the added oil or an ingredient that doesn’t agree with you, you may want to stop using it.

Revert to your day cream or choose a formulation that is less rich. There are lighter formulations that contain the same nourishing ingredients.

At the end of the day, it is a matter of finding out what works best for you.

SKIN CARE TIP
Applying your night moisturizer to slightly damp skin will really boost its performance. This helps to seal in the extra moisture. The skin will feel softer and smoother the next morning.
