Acne and pimples is a skin condition that many people suffer from during the teenage years. However, adults are affected too. It really depends on the hormonal activities in your body, heredity and hygiene. Your lifestyle can play a role on whether you have clear glowing skin.
Here are some steps on how to get rid of those unsightly pimples:
STEP 1
Step 1 is to clean the face.
A combination of hormonal activity, a buildup of bacteria and the shedding of dead skin cells causes pimples. Establish a skin care routine appropriate for your skin type.
Wash your face with a gentle, oil-free and fragrance-free facial cleanser. Choose one that is non-detergent and labeled pH balanced. If you have very oily skin, use a cleanser that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
Skip the toner unless your face is very oily, otherwise it might dry out.
If you have oily skin and feel that you need toner, apply it only on the T-zone, and rinse it off afterward (leaving it on can dry the skin). Use a clay mask as often as every three days to absorb excess oil.
STEP 2
Step 2 is to treat it.
Apply a topical acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid over your entire face, not just where pimples have already erupted.
At night, use a drying spot-treatment product and dab oil-free moisturizer on dry areas.
In the morning, apply an oil-free sunscreen gel over the entire face.
If a pimple pops up 2 days before a major event such as your wedding, you can ask your doctor to give you a cortisone injection to stop redness and swelling.
If you can't get to your dermatologist (or needles make you squemish), temporarily reduce redness and swelling by dabbing on a drop of drugstore cortisone cream, Preparation H, or Vasocon-A eyedrops.
STEP 3
Step 3 is to conceal it.
Use a small makeup brush to dab concealer or cream foundation (in the exact same shade as your skin) directly onto the pimple. Use a fingertip to wipe away excess concealer around the pimple and, if necessary, apply another coat of concealer.
If the makeup becomes cakey, carefully wipe it off and start over. Gently brush powder (in the exact same shade as your skin) on top of the concealer.
SOME DON’TS
Don’t pop your pimples as this can cause infections and even scarring. Have patience. It could take up to one month for a blemish to disappear completely. The less you poke at it, the better.
Don't scrub as this will irritate the skin and causing swells around the pores which will lead to further breakouts.
